THE LONGEST STORY

A WORK IN PROGRESS FOR ADDING MACHINE TAPE

HE/SHE NEEDED TO GET
AWAY FROM 1) SOMEONE
(A PERSON). 2)
SOMETHING (AN OBJECT),
OR 3) SOME OCCURRENCE
(AN EVENT). OR IT MAY
HAVE BEEN THAT THERE
WAS SNOW OR SAND ON
THE GROUND. ANY ONE
OF THESE REASONS MAY
BE TRUE; NONE OF THEM
NEED BE TRUE.

IF, HOWEVER. IT IS
UNDERSTOOD THAT THE
FIRST OF THESE REASONS
IS TRUE, THAT HE/SHE
NEEDED TO GET AWAY
FROM SOMEONE. THEN, IN
LIKE MANNER IT MAY BE
UNDERSTOOD THAT THE
NEED EXISTED FOR THE
PETUNIA, MARIGOLD,
GREEN PEPPER OR TOMATO
AS WELL, THAT IT
NEEDED TO GET AWAY, OR
BE GOTTEN AWAY FROM
SOMEONE. AND THAT AS
IT DID NOT TRANSPORT
ITSELF, IT WAS
TRANSPORTED BY THE
MAN, WOMAN, OR CHILD
WHO PRESUMABLY
RECOGNIZED THE NEED
FOR IT AS HE/SHE
RECOGNIZED IT FOR
HIM/HERSELF. OR SOME
OTHER CAUSE MAY BE
UNDERSTOOD. SUCH FOR
INSTANCE AS THAT THE
MAN, WOMAN, OR CHILD
WHO NEEDED TO GET AWAY
FELT A LIKING FOR THE
PETUNI A, MARIGOLD,
GREEN PEPPER OR TOMATO
AND WISHED TO HAVE IT
WITH HIM/HER. OR,
WITH REGARD TO THE
ABOVE, NOTHING NEED BE
UNDERSTOOD AT ALL.
IF, ON THE OTHER HAND,
IT IS UNDERSTOOD THAT
THE SECOND OF THESE
REASONS IS TRUE, THAT
HE/SHE NEEDED TO GET
AWAY FROM SOMETHING
(AN OBJECT), THEN
DITTO MAY BE
UNDERSTOOD. OR IT NEED
NOT BE.

THE SAME MAY BE SAID
OF THE THIRD REASON
IE., THAT HE/SHE
NEEDED TO GET AWAY
FROM SOME OCCURRENCE
(AN EVENT).

NOTHING AS YET HAS
BEEN SAID ABOUT
WHETHER THE PERSON
OBJECT OR EVENT
EXISTED AS A REALITY
ALREADY, IE., WHETHER
THE THREAT WAS IN THE
PRESENT, OR WHETHER
ITS EXISTENCE WAS
ANTICIPATED, IE., IN
THE FUTURE. PERHAPS
NOTHING NEED BE SAID.
THAT HE/SHE NEEDED TO
GET AWAY IS THE
IMPORTANT THING. OR,
ONCE AGAIN, PERHAPS IT
ISN'T. THERE MAY HAVE
BEEN, AS HAS ALREADY
BEEN SUGGESTED, SNOW
OR SAND ON THE GROUND,
THROUGH WHICH THE ONLY
MEANS OF MOVING WAS BY
TRUDGING, IN THAT
CASE, AND ASSUMING
THAT THE MAN, WOMAN,
OR CHILD DID TRANSPORT
THE PETUNIA, MARIGOLD,
GREEN PEPPER OR TOMATO
WHICH HE/SHE MAY NOT
HAVE DONE, A CERTAIN
LIKING FOR THE
MARIGOLD, PETUNIA,
GREEN PEPPER OR
TOMATO. MAY BE
ASSUMED. OR, IF NOT,
AT LEAST A DESIRE TO
HAVE IT WITH HIM/HER.
UNLESS, OF COURSE, THE
MAN, WOMAN, OR CHILD
WAS ORDERED TO TAKE
THE MARIGOLD, PETUNIA,
GREEN PEPPER OR
TOMATO WITH HIM/HER;
AND THAT WOULD BE
ANOTHER STORY.

ANOTHER STORY:

OUR STORY CONTINUES BY
BECOMING ANOTHER
STORY. THIS STORY
ASSUMES THAT THE MAN/
WOMAN/CHILD WAS
ORDERED TO TRANSPORT
THE MARIGOLD, PETUNIA,
GREEN PEPPER OR TOMATO
TO A LOCATION - A
PYRAMID, A TOWER OF
SILENCE, THE EMPIRE
STATE BUILDING. OR
NONE OF THESE - WHERE
HE/SHE MIGHT DANGLE
HIS/HER LEGS
CARELESSLY. AND THE
PETUNIA, MARIGOLD,
GREEN PEPPER OR TOMATO
GROW CONFIDENTLY, AND
THAT IN ORDER TO
ACCOMPLISH THIS END
HE/SHE WAS OBLIGED TO
TRUDGE. IE., PROCEED
WILLY-NILLY, POSSIBLY
THROUGH SNOW OR SAND,
POSSIBLY NOT, BUT
WILLY-NILLY NONE- THE-
LESS, AND THAT THE
JOURNEY WAS WEARYING
AND LONG. ALTHOUGH IT
NEED NOT HAVE BEEN
LONG IF, ASSUMING THE
PRESENCE OF SNOW OR
SAND, THE SNOW OR SAND
WAS FOUND TO BE DEEP.
THE SHORTEST DISTANCE
UNDER SUCH CONDITIONS
WOULD OBLIGE A PERSON
TO TRUDGE. OR PERHAPS
IT WOULD NOT.
CERTAINLY IT WOULD NOT
IF HE/SHE HAD SOME
OTHER MEANS OF
